Get The Hottest Oscar Hairstyles At Home!

We finally made it the most glamourous awards show of the year: the Oscars! Just as we expected, we saw some gorgeous gowns and amazing hairstyles. While we can’t help you score a vintage Dior dress, we have great tips to get your hair looking red-carpet ready. Wella Professionals was responsible for some of the best looks of the night, and now their celebrity stylists are sharing their tips on how they created these hot Hollywood hairstyles.

Michael Buckner/Getty Images

Michelle Williams

Michelle’s pixie is very modern and sophisticated chic. The hair has just enough texture to make the look sweet, yet edgy.

To Get The Look:
First, start by applying Sebastian Professional Mousse Forte to wet hair, then allow it to air dry. With a small round brush, finish off with a blow dry that gives the hair more height, then use your hands to set the part and bangs. Finish the look with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to set in place.

Penelope Cruz

The actress showed off very old Hollywood glamour, channeling the 1950s Grace Kelly finger waves that perfectly complemented her Armani Privé gown.

To Get The Look:
Start with dry hair and use a small amount of Wella Professionals Natural Volume Styling Mousse at the roots. Set hair in steam hot rollers by rolling hair straight back from the head. This will give hair extra texture and curl. Use smaller rollers at the back of the head to create a tighter curl, and then pin hair underneath into a faux bob. Lightly mist with Wella Professionals Dynamic Fix 45 Second Crafting Spray, then back comb and tease at the root. Brush out the finger waves into place and set with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray.

Leslie Mann

Stylist Rod Ortega decided to give Leslie a ponytail for a more youthful look that made for a fun contrast to her elegant, sequin-detailed dress. The high ponytail also works well for her face shape, creating a beautiful silhouette.

To Get The Look:
Start out by prepping wet hair with Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to prime hair for a smooth blowout. Use a small amount of Wella Professionals Mirror Polish Shine Serum on the ends of the hair for added smoothness and shine. Blow out with a round brush at the roots for texture and use a Mason Pearson paddle brush to blow dry from mid-length to the ends. Back comb for extra volume, especially at the roots, and use a flat brush from mid-length to ends again so there is texture, but not curl. Then leave the front and sides of the hair out, pull the rest of the hair into a ponytail near the top of the back of the head. Smooth the hair left out of the ponytail back and wrap around the elastic to hide the band. Spray the style with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to hold in place while leaving it with lots of natural movement.

Olivia Wilde

Stylist Davy Newkirk and Olivia opted to go for a chic 70’s inspired updo to complement her strapless Gucci gown that she wore to the 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar Party. The roughed up, simplistic yet super chic updo gave her a timeless and effortlessly beautiful look.

To Get The Look:
First, apply Wella Professionals Pearl Styler to wet hair and rough dry it, using your hand and a blow dryer. This will give hair extra texture before styling. Next, gather hair at the crown of the head and secure with a bungee cord. You can tease the ends to rough it up a bit more, for added edgy texture. Loosely twisted the hair around the bungee for a loose structure and secure with bobby pins and hair pins. To finish, spray the hair with Wella Professionals Dynamic Fix hairspray, and rough up the hair with fingers at the root and around the bun, spraying once again with the Dynamic Fix to add sheen and hold the look for the night.

Nina DoBrev

Celebrity stylist Riawna Capri gave Nina a youthful looking fishtail ponytail that is easier to create at home than you think.

To Get The Look:
First, spray Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz all over and scrunch hair for a nice beachy texture. Loosely gather the hair into a slightly messy ponytail with a center part. Then, begin your fishtail braid. Once done, pull a couple pieces out to create a more distressed look and finish with a shine spray, such as Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight all over for a polished finish.

Top 14 Oscar 2012 Hairstyles

Rose Byrne

The Bridesmaids actress continued to turn heads with her sleek bob, while keeping it simple and chic. “We wanted it to be all about shine and a high-gloss finish,” said her stylist Harry Josh, the John Frieda International Creative Consultant. To keep flyaways in place, Josh swiped stray strands with John Frieda Full Repair Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer.

Michelle Williams

Williams’ pixie has become a staple on the red carpet but seems to never get old. Hairstylist Chris McMillan spritzed Michelle’s bangs and part with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to keep them shiny and in place all night long. The Best Actress nominee recently dyed her strands a lighter blonde and paired with a raspberry lip to really make the blonde pop.

Sarah Hyland

The Modern Family actress went with a classic up-do, complete with tousled waves in front and a soft side part.

Milla Jovovich
Instead of a straight bob like Byrne and Faris, Milla went for tousled waves that fell in every direction. It was a great contrast to her strong red lip and old Hollywood one-shoulder dress.

Stacy Keibler

From the front, George Clooney’s better hair looked to be sporting a classic side swept ‘do but from the back the retro look actually had a twist at the nape of the neck, pulling the hair to the left.

Rooney Mara

The blunt bang was big last night. This Best Actress nominee went a little shorter, mirroring a classic French look. She paired with a sleek chignon at the crown of the head.

Maya Rudolph
Old Hollywood glamour was out last night and the Bridesmaids actress was no exception with side swept voluminous waves. “I was inspired by her beautiful gown and wanted to create a style that was a modern day homage to old Hollywood glamour,” said TRESemme Celebrity Stylist John D. who created the look.
Stylist Tip: He used a smaller barrel curling-iron to create a strong curl pattern. To loosen the curl after, he gently pulled on the section with fingertips.

Kristen Wiig
Celebrity stylist Mark Townsend described Wiig’s waves as “having an edge and sexy texture.”
To break up the curls and create shine, he raked Dove Style+Care Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum through Wiig’s curls. “I’m beyond obsessed with this product,” Townsend said. “It gives you the nourishment of a cream and the shine of a serum in one bottle!”

Anna Faris
Faris arrived to the Oscars with a blunt bob that fell just above the chin. Unlike Byrne, she went with a simple center part.

Penelope Cruz
The actress went for a Grace Kelly ‘do with old Hollywood waves and curls that rolled under in the back to create that faux bob look. Celebrity hairstylist Ande LeCompte rubbed a small amount of Wella Professionals Natural Volume Styling Mousse on Penelope’s roots to give her style great lift.

Cameron Diaz

Sexy bedhead hair is not as easy as Cameron would have you believe. Hair stylist Lona Vigi created the presenter’s carefree look and we have the details on how! To start, she blow-dried the hair with the Sultra Sophisticate Power Dryer to infuse volume and shine and the Sultra Seductress Curl, Wave & Straight Iron to straighten Cameron’s hair. To create that bedhead look, Vigi used the Seductress to flip up random pieces of hair, adding texture and movement.

Angelina Jolie

All eyes were on the bombshell actress, proving that a blowout is Oscar worthy. Her stylist used minimal products to allow movement, creating that beachy feel. And her new golden highlights were an added touch.

Olivia Wilde

Big buns were a red carpet trend but Wilde’s was less intense, complimenting instead of distracting. Hairstylist Davy Newkirk, who created Oliva’s look, whipped up tons of texture by applying Wella Professioanls Pearl Styler before blow drying and styling.

Katie Holmes
Holmes showed off her freshly cut bangs on the red carpet, courtesy of hairstyle Andy LeCompte. She paired with a 70s style long pony.

Top 10 Braided Hairstyles

Elizabeth Olsen

The youngest Olsen has style wisdom beyond her years. Lizzy’s braid is the perfect example of understated elegance, with loose strands and side placement adding an extra touch of casual chic. For a look like hers, create a deep side part and gather hair into a ponytail over your right ear. Loosely braid the ponytail, and leave a few face framing strands free.

Renee Bargh

Think Renee Bargh’s SAG Awards hairstyle is too complicated to try at home? Think again. Beauty meccas like Sephora are selling faux-hair headbands perfect for slipping on over any updo or half-up style.

Miley Cyrus

Before she opted for a cropped cut earlier this week, Miley Cyrus rocked a thick side braid on the red carpet. Incredibly versatile, long side braids are becoming a staple on the awards show circuit. The key to a style like Miley’s is extra volume and texture at the crown.Invest in a product like Bumble and Bumble’s (Un)Dressing Creme for a roughly styled mane.

Rashida Jones

Bangs add an extra girly feel to romantic braids and twists. But make sure you can pull off the look before you take a scissor to your precious locks! These stars were brave enough to get the cut.

Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Cuoco looked adorable on the red carpet with a rapunzel braid for a headband. Steal with intricate looking style in a snap by braiding a thick lock of hair starting behind your left ear, and pulling it over your head like a headband before pinning it behind your right ear. Tie the rest of your strands back in a casual updo, and voilà!

Bella Thorne

Add an accessory to your standard braided hairstyle like Bella Thorne’s red ribbon. Sparkling headbands and exotic broaches have been embedded in celebrity hairstyles all season. Now it’s your turn to get the easy red carpet look.

Dianna Agron

We’ve seen a bevy of braided headbands on this list, but none so alluring as Dianna Agron’s. The Glee star favors a fishtail braid, which is incredibly cool but also much more intricate than a standard braid. Luckily, Lauren Conrad has you covered with one of our favorite hair tutorials.

Brooke Anderson

Let you hair down around a braided headband and give it a wave-boosting jolt. Feminine braids become suddenly sexy when surrounded by tousled curls, which are easy to create with a little heat protecting hairspray and a medium barrel curling iron.

Busy Phillipps

If intricate braids are not your forte, take a page from Busy Phillipps and twist a strand around your finger before securing it behind your ear with a bobby pin. With her long, blonde hair and deep side part this style looks effortless and very pretty.
