J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons Turns Down Oscar Dress Request

The Oscars are considered the most important show during awards season. So, what designer would say no to a chance to be featured on the red carpet?
J. Crew President Jenna Lyons actually turned down a request last week to design something for Sunday’s show. Michelle Obama may be the best thing to happen to J. Crew, but why not enter the big leagues and design for an A-list movie star?
“We just got asked to do something for somebody for the Oscars, literally this morning. I said, ‘When are the Oscars? Two weeks? No way.’ We can’t turn samples and make really good-quality clothes on such a tight timeline,” Lyons said in an interview with ABC. “I certainly love the idea, but we’re not set up that way. If someone wants to wear a feathered skirt and a cashmere sweatshirt, then sure.”
After Michelle Williams donned an H&M dress on the BAFTA red carpet, we are hoping to see some gowns the masses can afford this weekend. Do you wish J. Crew would be featured on the red carpet? And since Obama is clearly not walking the carpet this weekend, who do you think made the request?
