Alexander McQueen Fall 2012

The one thing I love about an Alexander McQueen show is that you can expect the unexpected.

In a dark-lit room with the fibre optic lights hanging from the ceiling, the first model stormed the runway wearing an ivory jacquard coat with a Mongolian fur collar.

As the show progressed, the feminine, futuristic looks became more explosive as they pulsated down the runway.

We saw coats, capes, jackets and skirts adorned with feathers, fur pom poms, Mongolian fur and laser-cut pony skin on leather.

One look had a degraded effect of mink, goat fur and ostrich feathers, which was paired with knee-high black mink-trimmed boots.

The pretty dresses with silver dandelion embroideries seem made for Florence Welch.

A selection of fuchsia looks followed which had metal and enamel embroideries shaped into blossoms with an atelier-like precision.

The finale looks sang ‘hello Lady Gaga’ very loudly. Even though the singer is petite, I can see her wearing the black shaved organza gown.

Key accessories included visors, which I’m sure we will see Bryan Boy wearing next fashion week, heel-less shoes and metal waistbands.

We may not get to see the majority of our favourite looks on the red carpet, it will be exciting to see who will get an opportunity to wear the first look.

Who are you hedging your bets on?

Front Row: Salma Hayek and Anna Wintour

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Lady Gaga, Florence Welch, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, Rose Byrne, Daphne Guinness and Anne Hathaway.

Blake Lively was spotted on the set of ‘Gossip Girl’ in New York City earlier today shooting scenes with Elizabeth Hurley.

The blonde beauty was wrapped up against the winter chill wearing a black wool coat and a colourful print scarf, but it was her bag which caught my eye.

She was carrying the Jimmy Choo ‘Lara’ elaphe-trimmed woven cord shoulder bag.

Poking out of her chic multi-coloured Choo was a dark grey Marc by Marc Jacobs ‘Dreamy Logo Commuter’ bag.

The great news is both bags are available to purchase online. The bad news is Elizabeth Hurley is back on ‘Gossip Girl.’

You can buy the Jimmy Choo bag from Net-A-Porter US and Net-A-Porter International.
Her Marc by Marc Jacobs laptop case is from CUSP

Hats are often an overlooked statement accessory, but that is not the case when it comes to Fashion Week street style.

The latest trend to hit the streets of Paris Fashion Week comes courtesy of Jil Sander Spring 2012: veiled beanies.

Four were spotted inside Nina Ricci’s Fall 2012 show last week.

The netted mesh gives an edgy twist to the classic winter staple, while still remaining wearable.

Unsurprisingly, Anna Dello Russo kicked the trend a while ago, but it came into full force at the Balmain Fall 2012 presentation last Thursday. The gothic veil added a perfect touch to the Vogue editor’s all-black ensemble.

Proving the look is not just for the girls; fashion blogger Bryan Boy paired the hat with a printed Givenchy top while attending the Christian Dior Fall 2012 show on Friday.

The bold accessory has even caught on with the model crowd.

Supermodel Hanne Gaby Odiele, who has walked in almost every major show this season, took a break between shows to enjoy some gelato.

The omnipresent paparazzi and style bloggers were eager to snap a pic of the model indulging her sweet tooth whilst looking uber stylish.

Would you jump on this trend?

Manish Arora Fall 2012

Brooklyn-based graffiti master Judith Supine served as the inspiration for Manish Arora’s colourful Fall 2012 presentation.

Proceedings were kick-started with graffiti artists working their magic on a white backdrop which lined the runway.

Models then took to the runway wearing a selection of looks on a colour palette of sapphire blue, neon pink, citrus orange and black.

We saw fit-and-flare graffiti dresses and skirts, bomber jackets, metallic drop-waist dress with tutu skirts, printed pants, oversized coats, metallic laser-cut dresses and fur jackets.

Amongst the graffiti prints were floral appliqués, smoking-red lip motifs and psychedelic prints.

Models walked the runway with a collection of Nicholas Kirkwood for Pollini open-toe ankle boots.

Nicholas Kirkwood is one of the designers who will be part of this year’s British Designers Collective at Bicester Village

The show ended with models lining up against the now-completed ‘Life Is Beautiful’ graffiti backdrop, blending in like urban chameleons.

The whole show somehow reminded me of Neneh Cherry’s Buffalo Stance video. I’m surprised that wasn’t the soundtrack for this presentation.

Front Row: Zandra Rhodes and Anna Dello Russo

I’m Loving: Colorblock Bags

I’m loving everything colorblocked, but especially colorblocked bags. Whether it’s neutrals or bold colors that are stacked, the appeal of the colorblocked bag is that it goes with EVERYTHING. The only rule with these colorful handbags is that the occasion should match the style. For example, weekenders should choose a relaxed bucket bag, workers should carry a tidy tote, and evening party-goers should go for a streamlined clutch. Stack your colorblocked bag with complementing colors or let it stand out against a demure, neutral outfit. You can’t go wrong with color this season!

1. Diane von Furstenberg Harper Laurel Bag ($ 685)

Much like Zoe Saldana’s tidy tote, this DVF mixes basic black with a pop of color (orange). A truly versatile bag, this tote complements a weekend look as well as an office-going one. Sleek double rolled handles and silver logo hardware polish this piece up perfectly.

2. Diane von Furstenberg Mandy Small Bag ($ 595)

More weekend friendly, this tote gets its relaxed vibe from a bucket shape, throw-over-your-shoulder strap, and pretty pink and navy coloring. Pebbled leather gives it another layer of texture. I envision this bag going preppy with a striped top and colored denim capris.

3. Sonia Rykiel Capaia Bag ($ 610)

Hot summer in the city…or spring break on the beach. This warm-toned bag begs for the heat with blocks of coral, cognac and cocoa. Bucket bag with embossed logo, roomy interior, and drawstring closure.

4. 3.1 Phillip Lim Colorblock Small Pashli Zip Clutch ($ 425)

Heat up the night with this racy clutch by Phillip Lim. The perfect complement to an LBD, this slim clutch features a removable wrist strap, front envelope pocket and zip top closure.

5. Juicy Couture Colorblock Leather Crossbody Bag ($ 158)

Juicy, for sure. Red and pink combine in perfect union with a creamy white strap and trim. A turn lock closure completes this adorable take on a grown-up must-have.

6. Lanvin Colorblock Happy Shoulder Bag ($ 2090)

Spread a little happy. The citrus tones of this Lanvin bag are sure to bring good cheer, especially when set against the beige and grays of office-wear. A chic chain strap adds a modern element, while a lime-colored grosgrain bow finishes it with a feminine touch.

Front Row @ Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012

The front row at Dolce & Gabbana shows are just as anticipated as the collection itself.

The celebrities make their way down from the VIP lounge, to the end of the runway where they are papped by the photographers one by one.

Sonam Kapoor: I was honoured that Sonam wanted to meet me before the show as I had missed her in Paris. She was happy to discover that we were the same height. It’s a rare that I meet women my height so I shared her joy. She looked amazing wearing a sunflower and onion Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2012 fitted dress. “I’m wearing vegetables”, she joked. “You wear it well”, I replied. Red lips matched her red Dolce & Gabbana bag and gold peep-toes completed her look.

Dame Helen Mirren: The grand Dame was almost unrecognisable at the Dolce & Gabbana show. When word got around that it was her, people were in disbelief. Mostly because she continues to defy her years looking very sprightly wearing head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana. She opted for floral instead of fruit, teaming her fitted dress with a beige short sleeve coat from the Spring 2012 collection. An animal print Miss Sicily bag completed the look.

Monica Bellucci: The actress sent the photographers crazy; as you can well imagine. The woman who is archetypal Dolce & Gabbana woman and face of the Spring 2012 campaign looked stunning wearing a Dolce & Gabbana polka dot dress. She really took my breath away with her presence and beauty.
